From the press desk at Blackmagic Design:
Blackmagic Design is showing a complete Ultra HD workflow, from live production up to post production. They are announcing four new Ultra HD products, including the ATEM Production Studio 4K, Blackmagic Audio Monitor, ATEM Studio Converter 2 and HyperDeck Studio PRO Ultra HD Recording. And they announced upgrades to their camera lines, HyperDeck and desktop video lines to be able to handle 6GB-SDI, which is what is needed for Ultra HD.
The ATEM Production Studio 4K and Blackmagic Audio Monitor are two new products that are part of the Ultra HD line. ATEM Production Studio 4K is an Ultra HD/4K production switcher with support for Ultra HD live production with GB-SDI and HDMI technology and is only $1,995. It lets customers connect up to 8 SD, HD or Ultra HD 4K video cameras, disk recorders and computers for live production and includes features like chroma key, transitions, media pool, downstream keyers, audio mixer, multi-view and the world’s first 6G-SDI and HDMI 4K video connections.
The Blackmagic Audio Monitor is Blackmagic Design’s first audio focused product line where customers can get high quality audio monitoring with Ultra HD 4K technology built-in as standard. Expected by yours truly to become a killer camera: the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera ($995), which comes with a Super 16mm sensor, 13 stops of dynamic range, an MFT mount and records in ProRes and 12 bit RAW.
The ATEM Studio Converter 2 is new model of the ATEM Studio Converter product with enhanced talkback features, upgraded design and the addition of 6G-SDI support allowing support for Ultra HD video when 6G optical fibre modules become available. ATEM Studio Converter is perfect for live production because it includes 4 optical fiber converters in a one rack unit size chassis, combined with built in talkback features. ATEM Studio Converter is designed to operate with ATEM Camera Converters and allows the use of low cost optical fibre to connect cameras long distances away from the live production switcher. ATEM Studio converter supports both embedded SDI tally and also includes talkback features using the spare channels 15 and 16 in the SDI connections to the camera.
A new software update for the HyperDeck Studio Pro SSD recorder/player adds Ultra HD recording in Apple ProRes HQ 422 format. With this new update, customers will also be able to record Ultra HD and use HyperDeck Studio Pro as a broadcast recorder for Ultra HD recording. Ultra HD recording can be done using a single SSD. This is a perfect match for the ATEM Production Studio 4K for doing full live productions in Ultra HD.
Blackmagic Design has adopted 6G-SDI video for multiple products, including the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K, ATEM Production Studio 4K, Blackmagic Audio Monitor, HyperDeck Studio Pro, UltraStudio 4K, DeckLink 4K Extreme and ATEM Studio Converter 2. All of these support Ultra HD video resolutions, meaning that Blackmagic Design has a complete workflow for both live production and post production that supports Ultra HD today. 6G-SDI is ideal for Ultra HD interconnects in the television industry because it allows Ultra HD video to be sent down a single common BNC type cable, is low cost and switches between SD, HD and Ultra HD formats.
